Code Mapping® is our unique visual mapping of graphemes within the Speech Sound Pics (SSP) Approach, and Monster Mapped® Words also show the sound value, making English orthography accessible for neurodivergent learners.

The Science of Spelling
Spelling is not a minor concern. It is central to reading success. Across the world, students are falling behind in spelling, which limits their ability to decode, recognise words, and read with fluency. The Science of Spelling (SOS) offers a practical, research-informed way forward. We support teachers to map words clearly and systematically, using precise phoneme–grapheme correspondences. This orthographic mapping approach builds confident spellers and fluent readers. No guessing. No memorising. Just visible, teachable code.
Spelling Brains: Check Your Processing Speed. Are You Ready to Teach Spelling?

Did you know most phonics teachers do not know all the letter sounds?
Do you? Let's find out, together. The Four-Second Phoneme Challenge!
Spelling Teacher Training with Miss Emma: SOS
Undertake SOS Training. The Science of Spelling. Free training to anyone with the MyWordz tech.
No word lists. No sound of the day. No spelling rules. No memorisation. No programme.
Learn why spelling is central to reading, and why TEACHERS being able to map words consciously matters more than ever. SOS Training will not only help you understand the significance of MyWordz® technology. It will also show why you need to be able to map words for children in real time, throughout the day, for all words. Not just during phonics lessons.
If you can read and spell, you probably assume you can already do this. But that assumption can be misleading. Once we become fluent readers, we rely on orthographic mapping and access word forms automatically. We stop separating out the individual speech sounds and the graphemes that represent them. We read in our accents. SOS Training brings this process back into conscious focus. It shows you how to support learners who have not yet reached this phase. Many may never get there without your help. It matters that children are learning to spell words with experts. Emma Hartnell-Baker will teach you how to be a Science of Spelling expert and specialist teacher who celebrates linguistic and neurodiversity. The reading skills of your students will skyrocket, as a byproduct of YOUR new orthographic learning.

The children most at risk of difficulties learning to spell tend to be those who think and learn differently. Their needs are not embraced within an education system designed as if all learners process information in the same way.
Learning to read is far easier than learning to spell because reading allows for approximation. The brain can often deduce an unfamiliar word from partial code cues, from context, or recognise it through visual memory. Spelling, by contrast, demands precise recall of phoneme to grapheme correspondences, in the correct sequence, with attention to patterns that are often inconsistent. It is only when the word is stored in the orthographic lexicon that they can say if a word 'looks right'. Spelling is a production task, not simply recognition, which makes it significantly harder for many learners, particularly those who process language differently.
This means that YOU need to become an expert spelling teacher.
